'SHELAGHS' - ART EXHIBITION    

Five South Australian women artists - Cedar Prest, Lynne Sinclair-Wood, Debra Drake, Louise Hewit, Rebecca Cook inspired by the ancient traditional Irish/British image 'Shelagh-na-Gig', make contemporary art works in a variety of media. On Sunday 14th March, we will run a workshop at the gallery to make your own 'Shelagh'.

I see the unadorned nude as representing humanity at its most fundamental, and especially emphasising its vulnerability. I believe artists especially feel such vulnerability. 2010 HEYSEN SCULPTURE BIENNIAL B5    

2010 Heysen Sculpture Biennial B5. A group exhibition of sculptural installations in the grounds of The Cedars, Heysen's property, Hahndorf. The outdoor works are the artists' response to the natural landscape of the surrounding area.

Ayers House Museum pays tribute to its former neighbour the Palais de Danse or Palais Royal dance hall in this exhibition featuring 1920s and 1930s gowns from the Ayers House Costume Collection, and costumes from the Festival Theatre' s Performing Arts Collection. ADELAIDE, ATHENS OF THE SOUTH: I'LL HAVE IT IN POLYCHROME THANKS    

Adelaide in polychromatic, digitally enhanced colour. Adelaide is adorned with Hellenic imagery in public places, sometimes in your face, sometimes in hidden places, often unrecognised and mostly unnoticed. This is a 'coming out' using colour enhancement to bring accent, emphasis and fun in celebration of that imagery. Festival Hellenika 2010.

BI-CORNUAL ARTISTRY OF ABE MURIATA    

The epitome of the basket making skills of the Queensland rainforest Aborigines is the bi-cornual basket. One of the best exponents of the skills is Abe Muriata of the Girramay people. For the first time Tineriba is able to display a selection of Muriata's beautiful baskets; sculptural works of art.

CHIME    

Juniper's mixed media works combine whimsical imagery, with layers of text, colour and texture intricately applied with a variety of materials, to weave delicate stories of emotional experiences.

CLEARLY SA    

This is an exhibition of pure, unaltered images of the beautiful countryside of South Australia. The photographers have tried to depict the unique, quieter side of our countryside from the coast, to the hills, to the Murray, to the Mallee, showing the true colours of our wonderful state.


CLOSE TO HOME    

For the past 20 years Julie Millowick has been documenting her own environment - that of post goldrush Central Victoria. The imagery includes environmental portraiture, and stitched panoramas that provide an intimate overview of the landscape, and the people who live within it.

DARK AND DIRTY (EXTENDED)    

An exhibition of sculptures, drawings and photographs. Two local artists shed more light on the dark recesses of Port Adelaide's eclectic post industrial landscape.


DESIRE    

Tucked in the back streets of Ethelton, lies a fabulous little bakery and cafe called 'The Mill'. A beautiful place to stop and watch the world go by. In conjunction with renowned artist, Mark Lobert, 'The Mill' will be exhibiting several of Mark's works during the 2010 Adelaide Fringe Festival.


ELLA-MENTAL    

Art pushing boundaries between traditional methods and ancient skills, to produce contemporary works. Botanical and natural mineral dyes are used in random fusion linking the man-made to the natural. A sensitive window is opened into nuno felting, unique 'one face' dolls, knits, dysframing and the old skill of printmaking.


EMMA HACK'S EXOTIC & NATIVE MANDALA WITH BROADHURST DELIGHTS    

Internationally recognised multimedia artist Emma Hack will exhibit new works, Exotic Mandala, and her most recent collection Native Mandala in the Festival Theatre Foyer throughout this Fringe and Festival season. Also featured will be iconic Florence Broadhurst wallpaper blends for which Emma has received world-wide acclaim.

FAMILIAR

FERRIS WHEELS & FAIRYFLOSS    

From a cowboy's fairyfloss-induced dream, from carnies to acrobats, to ferris wheel tattoos, John Willanski and Cassie Flanagan combine black and white drawings, colour-saturated photography and digital art to enter the hyper-real world of the traveling showground. HEARTS OF GLASS    

Adelaide Stained Glass Studio presents the works of three diverse artists, working with themes of love and broken hearts, using hot-glass. Tim Shaw creates delicately beautiful hand-blown glass sculptures. Briana Lawrence designs gorgeous jewellery pieces worn to express your love. Anthony Gee uses imagery of hearts in unique glass plaques.


HEDGEMAZE    

Since 2004 Hedgemaze studio has been a dedicated space for a small yet diverse group of artists with a shared commitment to rigorous, professional art practice. This exhibition comprises a cross-section of current work from all nine members.


HOW ABSURD TO SWALLOW A BIRD

INVISIBLE RED THREADS    

In 2008 four Adelaide artists ventured to Jingdezhen, China as part of a residency supported by the Helpmann Academy. Inspired by their travels and experiences and immersed in a world of porcelain traditions the four artists have responded by making and exhibiting ceramic, mixed media and jewellery works.

MUSIC A MUSE    

Weaving drawing, watercolour and oils with music from around the globe with a lilting fluidity. Guitar string packets, CD cover designs, instruments, and musicians, it's all about the music. Dancing on the walls, dripping with colour, the paintings explore the whimsy, motivation and beauty of a musical life.


OF THINGS PAST

SARAH BEETSON "YOU ARE NOT WHAT YOU EAT: EATING DISORDERS IN FASHION"    

Sarah Beetson's 3rd solo exhibition explores society's preoccupation with body image and the rising global trend in eating disorders. The show sees Sarah collaborate with several fashion designers to create one-off wearable art, alongside a series of portraits and 100 Body Mass Index Badges made from original art.


SHAPESHIFTER: CITY/ADELAIDE    

A series of nocturnal, temporary installations across the Adelaide CBD. Emerging from discarded fragments and city debris, watch as Annalise Rees and Suzie Lockery transform your urban environment. Shapeshifter will briefly cling to its urban surrounds, before dissolving back into more pedestrian form before the dawning light.


SHELL-SHOCKED: AUSTRALIA AFTER ARMISTICE    

The devastating effects of the First World War on individuals, communities and the Australian nation in the two decades following the 1918 Armistice are explored in this exhibition. Shell-shocked: Australia after Armistice was developed by National Archives of Australia in conjunction with the Department of Veterans' Affairs.


SIZZLE    

A group exhibition that explores the sensory connection we have with intense - heat, anger, passion, ruin, scandal, tension and excitement. The circumstances that cause us to sizzle.


SORA - THE SKY    

Bright colours and glittering golds cover the canvas. Goddesses and birds fly decked with flowers. Buddhist painter Mieko's paintings represent the richness of Japanese art. Her theme is the endless sky and the Heavenly Bird of Happiness, Mayura. Workshops held. Call for times.


SOUTH AUSTRALIAN ICONS    

South Australian Icons is a folio of prints produced by a group of Adelaide Printmakers responding to various South Australian Icons.


SOUTH AUSTRALIAN PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT COMPETITION    

The inaugural South Australian Photographic Portrait competition will be held as part of the 2010 Fringe. The competition, to be run by 'Kryztoff', Adelaide's new on-line magazine, is open to residents of South Australia with entries closing 31 January 2010. A People's Award will also be determined.


SPIN A YARN, WEAVE A DREAM    

A diverse exhibition celebrating colour and texture in handwoven fabric, tapestry weaving, handspun yarn, knitting, crochet, felting, paper and basketry artworks in natural fibres of wool, cotton, linen, silk, alpaca, soy, and plants from our inspiring artistic members. Demonstrations of weaving, spinning, kumihimo braiding and more. Raffle entry.


STRANDS OF COUNTRY    

From the southern ocean to the northern seas and across the desert, contemporary textile art is practiced by Aboriginal artists. This exhibition showcases the work of three centres of contemporary textile art; Ernabella Arts from the central desert, Babbarra Arts from Arnhem Land and Kuju Arts from Port Lincoln


STREET DREAMS - URBAN ART FESTIVAL    

The ST5K crew have teamed up with an army of local and interstate graffiti and street art heroes to bring you Street Dreams - The Adelaide Urban Art Festival. Celebrating all forms of urban art, the festival presents workshops, art jams, films, panel debates, murals, competitions and an a-list exhibition.


TANGO TURTLE TENDRILS    

Begin in Tango Turtle Café. Small artworks on the walls. 5 are maps to 5 other exhibitions/events. Surrounding each map are artworks that are examples of what you can expect should you take a further journey. Glassworks, photography, painting, woodwork, video documentation, conceptual art.


TEA FOR THREE    

Three vibrant emerging artists exploring their relationship with paint. This exhibition is a feast for your eyes, with new, bright and exciting works. Tea for Three consists of Katie Johnson, Tiffany Rysdale and Petar Prodanovic who all have studies together at Adelaide Centre for the Arts.


TELL HIM SOMETHING PRETTY...    

Held within the burlesque themed adult boutique, Addora Live, 'Tell him something pretty...' is a selection of painted, photographic and textile works by local artists Anna Goodhind and Sally Kitten.


TGI VISUAL ARTS COLLECTION    

TGI Visual Art Collection from 3 continents: Asia, Australia, Europe. Graphic posters from Kanazawa, Japan. Rita Neininger's colourful abstract paintings (Switzerland). 'Moto-Extase' erotic photography by Paul Blythe (UK) and Adelaide's own Meg Stephens' whimsical look at the world through the digital eye.


THE CARS THAT ATE SCREAMDANCE    

Adelaide's lady of craft Violet Cooper throws down her glue-encrusted glove and the soldiers of Screamdance rise to the challenge. Bright shiny super fun sculptures and more by some Urban Cow Gallery favourites.


THE FACE    

Emerging artist, Meaghan Coles displaying a fresh approach to realistic portraiture. Large oil paintings showcasing an experimental approach to representational painting. Using popular found imagery from magazines and advertisments to display emotion and confrontation of the human gaze.


THE GARDEN    

The GARDEN is a uniquely Australian installation, inspired from the Gondwana period, when Australia was part of a larger landmass incorporating many of our neighboring continents. Growing in The Garden are Calamites, Cycads and Lycopods, ancient swampland vegetation that grew over the Gondwana landmass, from the Devonian to Carboniferous eras.


THE LAND OF RUMI & LOVE    

This exhibition presents art works of Persian Artists Group oriented in Australia: Nasser Palangi, Farideh Zariv, Shahin Azadegan, Amin Palangi, Sanaz Foutohi and Fatemeh Palangi. The exhibition includes: photographs, paintings, photo media which present the life and culture of Iran and Afghanistan.'Meet the Artists' 22 Feb 10am - 11.30am.

A multi-sensory, interactive art installation space inviting an exploration of the soul, connecting with the great themes of life - hope, fear, doubt, wonder and desire.

The Sea of Faces: A visual exploration of the human race, is a collaboration between two upcoming photographers depicting a wide range of portraits of people from many walks of life.

THREADS OF LIFE    

A variety of threads join us together in our interests of all kinds of stitching, whether natural fibre or man-made. Articles are created and embellished using many different threads ranging from traditional to contemporary, including original items from our museum that go back centuries.


TINY TOWNS    

Exploring a new future of technology, energy and community Tiny Towns holds a mirror up to the way we live now and the way we will need to change. All February and March, Tuesdays - Saturdays: 10am to 4pm, Friday nights: 6pm - 9pm.

TOURBILLON    

Tourbillon: Adelaide Hills Artists, Margaret and Jenni Collier present a whirlwind show of vibrant edgy works in oils, spray paint, watercolour and acrylic. The works will take you on a journey from outer space to the back yard. Enquires: 0430619453


TWENTY SIX TRACKS    

Twenty six images of live music events by two of Australia's most exciting music photographers. Some of the performers photographed include Franz Ferdinand, The Prodigy, Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, Iggy and the Stooges, Neil Young, The Hives, REM and TV on the Radio.


URBAN JUNGLE    

The city can be a stark unwelcoming place but the jungle is coming back to play. Street artist John Willanski invites you to come play too. February 19 - March 14 at Wilson's Organics.


VANGUARD ISLAND    

The artist performs a presentation of Vanguard Island, a fictitious country. It is a video art piece which uses the time-honoured surrealistic technique of stream of consciousness writing. The stuff that comes out of the artist's mouth is completely random and generated on the spot.


VINTAGE    

12 artists, 12 interpretations of VINTAGE with a variety of mediums. Day-coloured wine, night-coloured wine,wine with purple feet,or wine with topaz blood,wine... Drink it, and remember in every drop of gold, in every topaz glass, in every purple ladle, that autumn laboured to fill the vessel with wine...


WANDERING IN MARRAKESH    

A meditation on Marrakesh, a bastion of Berber culture, and on through the incredible Atlas Mountains.


WARP ON THE WILD SIDE    

Warp and Weft, Woven and Wild, Natural and Knot. A contemporary basketry exhibition in historic Urrbrae House. This exhibition reflects a diverse range of techniques displaying intricate patterns, flowing lines, expected shapes and sculptural forms using plant fibres found in Waite Arboretum. Guided walks in the Arboretum on Sundays.


WEDGE-WARE    

Claywork sitting right on the top of the wedge...the thin edge! An exhibition of new and exciting functional and non functional claywork by members of STUDIO POTTERS SA. Opening at 2.30pm on Sun. Feb. 21.


WHAT IS BLACK AND WHITE AND RED ALL OVER?    

Craftsman David Innocente, jeweller Julie Frahm and printmaker Shelley Richards have blended their talents to show their work using only these 3 striking colours. Innocente's contrasting materials, Frahm's stunning glasswork and Richards' delicate touch will make for a stunning exhibition. This event will present something for all artistic tastes.


WHAT IS FREEDOM?    

An exhibition by artists and media workers aged 12- 25 who have created a personal or global response to the question 'What is Freedom?' Funded by Save the Children, this event explores issues of human rights, vagaries and privileges.


WILD FIBRES RECYCLED    

Diverse and vibrant textile artworks with a recycle perspective by artists Bev Bills, Margaret Harris, Necia Magain, Charmian Quintrell, Jackie Pearce, Helen Sherriff, Liz Steveson, Kaaren Temme & Liz Yates. Works in weaving, basketry, creative stitching, quilting, applique, paper, felting, mixed media, printing.


WINDOW TO AFRICA    

A splendid display of arts and crafts from Nigeria by 8 artists representing the diversity and richness of African art and culture of past and present. A true window to Africa. An opportunity not to be missed. First time in Australia.
