Bumpout

It’s the saddest time of the Fringe for me when everyone performing heads home and the crews are left to pack up, even performers from Adelaide are gearing up for the Brisbane Festival, Parramatta Big Laugh Festival and MICF Melbourne International Comedy Festival, leaving us the public to a more than a quiet town, lucky

Adelaide Fringe Awards Night Spectacular

19 Mar

Big John

How fantastic are the Fringe Awards for 2013, the very best selected by a choice group of peers who are right on the money when it comes to talent, I had a great feeling that Alirio with Book of Loco would win awards and it did, an epic production that had everyone who experienced it

There goes another Adelaide Fringe! In the blink of an eye the city was transformed from inducing a comatosed yawn into a place where dreams come true, passion is ignited and Farmer’s Union iced coffee keeps everyone awake for a month. As always the Fringe was a busy time of year for me – I

Sucked In (In the Nicest Possible Way)

15 Mar

bertie

An interesting aspect of the Fringe is the touting for business by the performers, particularly at mass performance space venues like GoUD, Gluttony and Tuxedo Cat. Last Saturday night between the entrance to Gluttony and the tent we had tickets for, we were accosted (in the nicest possible way) by at least 5 performers hawking

Arcade Lane

Arcade Lane I found was a great place for a wine between shows and while shows are in progress you can soak up a comfy zone away from the hustle of hanging in the garden although there is talk of a hanging garden  in the lane that would itself be an attraction above and beyond

One thing you’ve got to love about Fringing, is that every day can bring unexpected surprises in terms of the talent and professionalism that’s on show. Just when I was beginning to feel a little jaded and overcome with performance blur, along comes a day, and 3 shows with it, that lifted my spirits so

Desperately Seeking the Exit Review

11 Mar

AlexCroker

Excellent. Desperately Seeking the Exit was a performance which Madonna and Blondie would be proud of. Peter Marino’s narrative of his life as he descends into a nervous breakdown after conceptualising a performance which combines the Madonna film ‘Desperately Seeking Susan’ and the tunes of supergroup Blondie was funny, educational, and capturing. As mentioned, the

Seussical the Musical

10 Mar

tularosa

What an upbeat show!  There is talent and energy aplenty in this version of the Flaherty and Arens popular musical, based on the characters of  the one and only Dr Seuss. Horton, Maisie, The Cat in The Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, – they are all here. Visually this show delights, and the sound is just splendid.
