Basil, Sybil and Manuel return, serving madcap mayhem and a three-course meal in this internationally-acclaimed, sell-out show. This is “outstanding” (FringeReview) interactive comedy theatre that’s fresh every time. “Absolutely fantastic!” said Adelaide Magazine at last year’s Fringe. “Belly-achingly funny” (aussietheatre.com). “A once in a lifetime dining experience!” (British Theatre Guide).

    Score: 3/5 stars
Suitable for: Teen-Adult, faulty towers knowledge not required.
Synopsis: Faulty towers is brought to life for your entertainment.

I’m not an expert of Faulty towers, but like everyone I’ve seen a few episodes and I have some idea of the characters. From my point of view, they were expertly cast and extremely well portrayed.

From the very beginning of the night where the waiter Manuel bids you to leave the bar, the hotel becomes a stage with three characters serving you dinner in the faulty towers restaurant.

The price is pretty steep for a fringe show ~ depending on the night between $75 and $99, but it does include a three course dinner. This, unfortunately, is where the show is predictably let down. While the acting is excellent and the venue very well chosen for that faulty towers feel, the food is a general let-down. It’s enjoyable, but nothing memorable at all.

But back to the show. Without giving anything away, I can tell you that we happily interacted with all of the characters throughout the night, watched their antics and were generally well entertained. For 2 solid hours, faulty towers was magically created all around us. The only criticism I have of the performers is the lack of genuine impromptu responses to audience members, as these all felt a little scripted. That said, I appreciate how difficult it is interacting with the audience at any time. I should also mention that no faulty towers pre-knowledge is required to appreciate the show, you’ll get to know all the characters quickly enough.

All in all a very enjoyable night, and at $20 less it would have easily gained 4-5 stars, but the value for money feeling brings it down to a solid 3.
