I gatecrashed the Fringe Staff and Crew party today at the Fringe office in Norwood on my turf :p and it was a happening party with so many ready to wind down and go into relax mode before heading out to other festivals, Staff have a few days off until it all starts again ready to book acts in for 2014, I’m so excited, Last year at this same time I was crawled up in a ball coping with depression of the Fringe being over, this year it was one week longer and I reach a point thinking this is just to much but it was perfect and I’m full to the brim with photos and stories, Video and memories, No sign of depression this year even while taking the final photos of the Fringe site being cleaned up and a empty park lands being handed back to council, lots of friendly faces at the party and Greg Clarke commending the mammoth effort to all involved with the success of this years Adelaide Fringe.

Now I’m off to gatecrash the after party :p lol

The 11 month countdown clock has started

Sometimes I feel lazy and just want to watch a show without having to read a long winded review, I have some vids just for that :p

I’ve been slowly adding videos of some acts at the Fringe who have allowed me to record some or all of their shows and there are some funny moments and great music, some nudity and plenty of silliness.

Although in the first few days I was still getting used to a new Camera as my favorite failed on the first day so the vids get better as time goes on

It’s the saddest time of the Fringe for me when everyone performing heads home and the crews are left to pack up, even performers from Adelaide are gearing up for the Brisbane Festival, Parramatta Big Laugh Festival and MICF Melbourne International Comedy Festival, leaving us the public to a more than a quiet town, lucky that when the Fringe stops the Comedy does not and the local theater groups continue on producing plays, Life sort of goes on but it is depressing that many of my friends will be leaving after the bump out and I’m feeling it already. I’m walking around taking photos of what was and will be next years props being packed away. It’s a race at all the venues to be out before Friday when the city is handed back to Adelaide, It’s been a long month for me with very little sleep, during the day I’m a full time live in carer at night full time Fringer :p thanks to a couple of friends I’ve been able to use any spare time to see as much as I can this Fringe and I have a pile of flyers from shows I’ve seen but not enough time to write about them all as I type with two fingers lol, I did take photos of many performers and have another story just for those who have been looking with no success to find a photo at the Fringe.

Thanks to the crews who are working through the day and night to restore the city back to it’s original state and for their efforts with Goolwa and Desert Fringe and the Street Performers Festival that was staged on the hottest days of the Fringe, I could hardly stand those days. Thanks again

So it’s all locked in for next year and I have eleven months to organise my life around a twenty hour day.

Feb 14 – 16 March 2014 and I’m looking forward to the Fringe taking over my life for four weeks

Beyond the Fringe…

It dawned on me today that I should pop back here and give myself a bit of a plug as a blogger in general, just in case you have been reading my posts and think you’d like to read more. I’m a fourth (final) year student in a Professional writing course and have been published in a few magazines (99% of the time unpaid I will add) and I’m a community broadcaster – another volunteer position. I mention this only because it gives me access to a lot of information, which I post to my Orble pages – they are a different version of Word Press… so, if you’d like to read reviews and news that I put up beyond the Fringe, here are the links.

The Fringe Club Webpage on Facebook has been set up so when you take a photo in the club that looks good it is added to the website so all can see and the best make it up on the big screens within the Club during the night, I have taken full advantage of this space to show some of my photos from around the Fringe Club including Desert Fringe.

Adelaide Fringe Awards Night Spectacular

How fantastic are the Fringe Awards for 2013, the very best selected by a choice group of peers who are right on the money when it comes to talent, I had a great feeling that Alirio with Book of Loco would win awards and it did, an epic production that had everyone who experienced it talking, congrats to all involved with the production.

Fez was so glamorous as usual and is the first time I have seen him host an awards night, great job Fez I would have thought Paul McDermott may have hosted the awards but had already left early in the day for home, Paul was good value and was at many of the events I was at so plenty of photo ops

I would like to thank BankSA for renewing their support for the Adelaide Fringe for another four years and for the amount of support they give to other events around South Australia connected to and during the Fringe everywhere, their cheap seats are paid to the performer at full price then resold at $10, this is an amazing gesture.

I was asked if I would join the judges next year and was humbled by that comment, I don’t know if I would have enough time in a day to see as many shows as they do but wow I would love to even see ten percent of what they experience

It was a long and fun night for all who made it in before the lineup started

ADELAIDE FRINGE 2013

There goes another Adelaide Fringe! In the blink of an eye the city was transformed from inducing a comatosed yawn into a place where dreams come true, passion is ignited and Farmer’s Union iced coffee keeps everyone awake for a month. As always the Fringe was a busy time of year for me – I had the privilege to see nineteen comedy shows, all of which were fantastic and brilliant in their own ways.

This year the comedians stepped it up again with a range of brand new shows and (mostly) brand new material. I find it hard to decide on a stand out performer but Tommy Little and Sam Simmons are pretty close – both producing awesome shows! Honourable mentions go to Tom Gleeson and Celia Pacquola while also Sammy J and Bart Freebairn both deserve a mention due to looking the best in a suit and making the best pillow fort respectively.

Due to my Fringe addiction I was able to experience some of the less exciting parts that slowly mess with your head and your lack of sleep until you form a burning love for them and get severe withdrawals at the end of March. I’ll miss listening to people’s shitty conversations while waiting in line to see a show. I appreciate comedians more when I have to stand around for half an hour beforehand listening to some loud bogan from Adelaide who thunderously exclaims that people should pay for the pleasure of listening to their life story or knowledge on the act we’re about to see. Sometimes I think comedians put them there as a warm up act, just to accentuate quality comedy.

It kills me to say I already miss the familiar pain of cracking my knees into a ninety degree angle just to fit into my seat and the silent scream I want to unleash when I stand up after an hour of rubbing my knees on my ears, drilling my iliac bones into a wooden seat and having a large man behind me rape my lower back with his knees.

Despite the lack of sleep and dealing with people dawdling down Rundle Street, the Fringe is the best time of the year and the worst part is when it all comes to a close. Suddenly I have a lot more time, the redness slowly disappears from my eyes and I actually run out of excuses to ditch uni. The only remedy for this is to reminisce and get along to some weekly comedy at Adelaide’s best venue, the Rhino Room.

Only twelve months to wait until next Fringe, in the meantime – stay boring Adelaide!

Desert Fringe brings huge audiences to Outback

Desert Fringe was overwhelmed by crowd numbers in the late afternoon to evening and for the final performance of Trade Winds performed by Polytoxic (QLD) on the water the numbers swelled into the thousands. This event Desert Fringe is in it’s sixth year and is a winner in Port Augusta with spectators traveling hundreds of miles to enjoy a Fringe Moment, it’s taken for granted that I can just pop in ten minutes from my house and be apart of everything that is Fringe but in the outback it’s only two days a year and they made the most of it while the Desert Fringe was on, I will be back next year to enjoy the great entertainment and the free food put on by the sponsors of the Fringe BankSA.

Great outdoor venue and fantastic crew have made this the largest festival in Port Augusta and I herd music that was world class from Robert Champion and Michael Colbung, they played original compositions that had me wondering why they are not well known across Australia and the world, Lots of acts to entertain the kids and at one stage the children were cheering so loud it compared to a Stadium for sound at a grand final

The photos below will give you an insight into how good it was to be in the middle of something very special.

when I googled the distance to Port Augusta google said it’s a three hour tour, then I had Gilligan’s Island theme music in my head most of the way there :p

This was fantastic . The energy and enthusiasm was great of all the performers. It is really wonderful to see everyone – performers and audience having such a great time. One comes away feeling inspirted to dance and happy. Well done

Sunday night will see the winners of this years best and brightest at the Adelaide Fringe and will be limited to invited Artists, if you don’t have an artists pass you may find it very difficult to enter the Fringe Club until later in the night but give it a go as it makes for great photos

I still have quite a few shows to go to and have a back log of stories to tell so stay tuned, if your in Melbourne and looking for shows to see at the International Comedy Festival then I will have a list of best Comedy for you as well.
